Today in 2009, the 'Conscience' of Nigeria, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, GCON, SAN who was born on the 22nd April, 1938 was 'freed' and left this planet earth.
Chief Abdul-Ganiyu "Gani" Oyesola Fawehinmi, GCON, SAN was a Nigerian author, publisher, philanthropist, social critic, human and civil rights lawyer, and politician.
In no time, Gani (as he was famously known) proved his great patriotism for the yet dependent Nation of Nigeria.
Consequently, he was nicknamed 'The Nation'. On the 15th of January, 1965, Gani was called to bar. In otherwords, Gani was armed 'lawyerly' to use his tongue to protect and improve the status quo.
The founding fathers of Nigeria had achieved some 90% of patriotism and Nigeria was designed to be the giant of mother continent, the home of human civilization.
Regrettably, as Gani prepared for the first anniversary of his call to bar, the tooth began to chew the tongue. On the 15th of January, 1966, blood replaced oil. So, oil river became blood river. A new struggle to 'refree' Nigeria ensued. And Gani emerged the Nigerian National Conscience. No Nigerian after the Zik of Africa, had shown love (patriotism) for Nigeria like Gani.
Therefore, Nigerians who want genuine freedom from blind elitism should imbibe Fawehinmism or Ganism. In that way, they will not hire the mosquito to treat their malaria. ...
May the soul of Gani continue to rest in peace and May God free Nigeria from blind elitism.
